Morgan Pressel: Golf
built 223 days ago
Roswell, Ga. –Nothing, it seems, could stop Morgan Pressel. Not the 155 other competitors in the 2005 U.S. Women’s Amateur. Not the Georgia heat and humidity that enveloped suburban Atlanta’s Settindown Creek Course of Ansley Golf Club over the seven days of the championship. Not the rains nor brief thunderstorm that temporarily suspended play in Sunday’s 36-hole championship match.

Pressel will make appearances in BEC parks across the nation. Her appearances will include presentations to participants in the company's "Champions" program, a campaign intended to inspire and honor young women who have committed to excellence in academic achievement and athletics. Pressel ... has donated a golf clinic and dinner with SeaWorld's Shamu the killer whale for a silent auction as part of the annual WildNIGHT fundraiser for the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund.
When the teams gathered for pictures on the 18th fairway at Halmstad Golf Club Tuesday afternoon Pressel stood in the back row, presumably to let the veterans have a seat. As the youngest and shortest player on the team, Pressel stood out as the lineup took a dramatic dip in the back left corner. The fact that she was the only player wearing a black hat didn’t help.

Pressel is spoiled and funny and precocious. And very polite. She'll discuss just about anything with just about anybody. Her golf. (She wants to be No. 1.) Her boyfriend. (Isn't he cute?) Her disgust for baseball.
Fast foreword to 2005 and Pressel is on the verge of entering the professional golf ranks. Adulthood is approaching at a rapid rate as she moves toward her goal of professional competition.

Kerr and fellow tourist Natalie Gulbis hugged Pressel, who again covered her reddish blue eyes with oversized shades and walked under the grandstand. She slumped against a pole, sat on the ground and sobbed some more, her muscular shoulders shaking. A business agent consoled her as U.S. Golf Association workers, scorers and reporters walked past, dumbfounded.
