Matthew, with a chance to join Pressel at 3-under, soon missed her long birdie putt on No. 18. Lincicome did the same, and Pettersen completed the triumvirate with her final miss (from about 25 feet).

Pressel birdied 18 to get two shots behind Pettersen and waited an hour in which Pettersen blew a three-shot lead with four holes to play. A missed 25-foot birdie putt on 18 that would have forced a playoff ended the suspense and prompted Pressel to put her face in her hand.

Pressel was climbing up the leaderboard. Even on the day through seven holes, she had three straight birdies beginning at No. 8, then added birdies at Nos. 12, 14 and 17.

Pressel birdied the third, fourth and sixth and then began the back nine with three birdies in a row. Her lone bogey of the day came at the par-4 13th but she answered with back-to-back birdies and closed with three pars.

Pressel, who started the day two shots back of Pak, needed just four holes to take the lead on Sunday. She overcame Pak at No. 4 when she rolled in a downhill 12-footer for birdie while Pak failed to get up and down from the left greenside bunker.

"Everything just kind of jelled," Pressel said. "I hit the ball really solid and I gave myself plenty of birdie opportunities and I putted better than I can ever remember putting, so that's kind of nice."
