The Monroe Doctrine was a doctrine that was put into use on December 2nd, 1823. This doctrine said that the americas could no longer be interfered or messed with by the european powers. The Monroe doctrine showed that the Americas could no longer be messed with and if it was tried then the Americas were ready for war. The doctrine showed the strength and confidence behind the new country. So as a result the doctrine gained respect for the new country. While it is called the Monroe doctrine, it was not actually written by James Monroe.

The U.S. was planning to stay on no side in the fight between european powers and their colonies. The doctrine was stated by James Monroe during his 7th annual State of the Union Address to Congress, which was a defining moment in the foreign policy in the U.S.
