Monk: Episodes
built 143 days ago
Monk Promo Even with a couple of minor flaws that won't get by most Monk fans, Mr. Monk Goes to the Firehouse is just what Monk should be. Goldberg has a clever, breezy style that matches the tone of the series. Even the hard to please devoted fans of the TV series shouldn't be disappointed and with only sixteen episodes a year supplemental Monk is a blessing.

Adrian Monk, portrayed by Tony Shalhoub, on the cover of the Monk Season 5 DVD box Monk ... has several themes, recurrences and mannerisms that are observed on most episodes. One mannerism is feeling the compulsive need to touch things lightly with his index finger, such as heat lamps, parking meters, and hat racks. Another is to notice "inconsistencies" in the room by focusing on sections of a crime scene, this is often displayed by him tilting his head, and viewing objects between his fingers, in every episode, he observes a crime in this way. Another recurrence is that when he describes how a crime was done he has difficulty due to an outside force. For example, he is speaking gibberish due to post-traumatic stress (via earthquake aftershock) in Mr. Monk and the Earthquake. Another example of this is Monk being dehydrated, not drinking anything for one and a half days and experiencing dry mouth Mr. Monk Goes to Mexico.
[J]ury members are not supposed to contact anyone but the bailiff during their deliberations, as both Monk and Natalie know very well. But the contact goes on. Natalie summons Captain Stottlemeyer, and Stottlemeyer communicates with Monk while Monk is in the jury room. Eventually the judge spots Monk and the police discussing the body and he sequesters the jury, who are consequently enraged with Monk. The judge should probably have declared a mistrial, but that would be the end of the episode, and Monk would not get the chance to solve the other mystery in the story, which is why one of the jurors keeps changing her vote just as everyone else agrees on a verdict. Monk is, incidentally, instrumental in convincing them that the case on which they are deliberating is a frame-up: it's highly reminiscent of Twelve Angry Men, down to the functional identifications of the other jury members ("Postal Worker Juror", "Sports Fan Juror", etc.).

Author Image Friday features new episodes of Monk & Psych on USA starting at 9/8c. First up, Monk takes up painting and meets with unexpected success. Following that, when a member of a local brotherhood dies during an initiation ritual, Shawn and Gus enter a world of secret handshakes, where Lassiter’s father-in-law presides....
Interestingly, USA has ... taken a skeptical approach to psychics in their other detective series, the hit show Monk. One episode portrayed a bumbling psychic who seemed to have suddenly gained true clairvoyant powers, until Monk discovered the true (and non-paranormal) explanation.
