Monitors are indispensable in most areas today. However, this market tends to be confusing for customers not just due to the vast amount of monitors on offer but the fact that they only vary slightly.

A typical size for small VGA monitors is 14 inches. Monitors that are 16 or more inches diagonally are often called full-page monitors. In addition to their size, monitors can be either portrait (height greater than width) or landscape (width greater than height). Larger landscape monitors can display two full pages, side by side. The screen size is sometimes misleading because there is always an area around the edge of the screen that can't be used. Therefore, monitor manufacturers must now ... state the viewable area -- that is, the area of screen that is actually used.

Typically, ATMs use standard CRT monitors, primarily because of their low cost. However, as the number and complexity of ATM transactions has increased, readability of the displays has become a much larger issue, especially in outdoor machines where sunlight can make text on a CRT screen virtually invisible. This ATM manufacturer - the second largest worldwide - turned to Planar to solve the problem. Planar is a long-term display partner for this ATM manufacturer, and has developed an in-depth knowledge base around ATM product and customer requirements.

[S]hould you use multiple monitors? The answer really depends on how you use the computer. Those doing a large amount of multitasking that require the windows to be visible at all times or do graphics and require a preview windows while they are working will. The average consumer doesn't really need this ability as they use only one or two applications at a time and do not need the additional workspace.
[N]ot all monitors that say they are a certain size are a certain size. For example: a 17-inch monitor is never actually 17 inches, it's usually between 16.1 and 16.9 inches. The measured distance used for most monitors is the physical size of the plastic case across the diagonal, not the screen. Thus, you should always read the fine print and bring a measuring tape.
