LCD monitors are digital, but most have analog inputs, because that is what most people still have on their video cards in their PCs. Many LCD monitors ... have a digital input jack which, if your PC supports it, should be the one you use. A PC, after-all creates a digital image which gets converted to analog, so you can view it, and then gets converted back to digital within the LCD monitor. Your colours will be truer, and you picture clearer, if you do not go through this conversion and drive the monitor digitally, if you can.

CRT computer monitors, those big old tube jobs, are headed for extinction, doomed by their large size, flicker and high energy consumption. True, they're in the bargain bin these days, but prices on LCD computer monitors keep coming down. Some graphics purists favor CRTs over LCDs because they can display an infinite range of colors. If you're set on a CRT, the key metric is "dot pitch" -- .22mm to .27mm is the range for a decent CRT monitor -- and get a tube with a flat-faced screen.
