Capping off this tough opening trio on the Monarch is a long par-3 (209 yards from the back and 166 from the forward). “Again you’re headed for a small green that is not very big for such a long hole,” Howell said. “And there’s not a flat spot on the green. If you score a 3 or better you’re stealing from this course. This is a very difficult hole.”

Since then, Monarch has played a substantial role in Countdown. In the Bleed, he has gathered a colossal army of potentially millions of soldiers from across the Multiverse in order to battle the Monitors. It was revealed in Countdown to Final Crisis #26 that he wishes to unleash a crisis wave which will destroy the multiverse and leave there only one unified reality, ruled by him. Currently, besides foot-soldiers his army consists at the very least of the Crime Society of Earth-3, and the JL-Axis of Earth-10. Initially, he used Forerunner to both train his army and recruit new warriors, but he later abandoned her. He approached Lord Havok of Earth-8 to be his second in command, and while the warlord initially said no, he later appeared to change his mind as he was seen leading Monarch's armada.

In North America, the Monarch butterflies’ home, scientists are concerned for the butterflies habitat. Ice and hail destroyed millions of Monarchs overwintering in the Mexican highlands a few years ago. CNN reported the population was in jeopardy. The National Academy of Sciences predicted a massive die-off with climate change. Development of wilderness destroys milkweed on which caterpillars feed. Pesticides are indiscriminate, killing the milkweed and the butterfly in all stages.

The poisonous Monarch is mimicked by the non-poisonous North American Viceroy butterfly (Limenitis archippus), which has a similar shape, coloration and patterns. Predators who have learned to avoid the Monarch will ... avoid the similar-looking Viceroy.

The Monarch is a poisonous butterfly. Animals that eat a Monarch get very sick and vomit (but generally do not die). These animals remember that this brightly-colored butterfly made them very sick and will avoid all Monarchs in the future.
