The Monadnock Region is renowned for depicting classic New England beauty and charm. It is located in the southwestern part of the state. It is resplendent with picturesque rolling hills, winding country roads, small villages, and stunning greenery. At the center of this region lies Mount Monadnock, a 3,165 ft mountain that gives the region its name. (A Monadnock otherwise known as an “inselberg” is a hill or mountain that is surrounded by virtually level land rather than other mountains.) It is often represented as one of the most climbed mountains in the world, and at its peak has views of up to 100 miles in any direction. The mountain is located mostly in Jaffrey but other notable towns in the region include Peterborough and Keene.
The Monadnock Region of New Hampshire is named for Mount Monadnock, one of the most frequently climbed mountains in the world. Mount Monadnock in the town of Jaffrey is easily the biggest attraction to this area. The Monadnock Region is situated in southwestern New Hampshire amidst beautiful rolling hills, small villages, rustic farmsteads, and winding back roads.
Founded in 1989, the Monadnock Conservancy is the only land trust dedicated exclusively to the 35 towns of the Monadnock Region. Every year the Conservancy helps the people of the Region protect hundreds of acres of forests, farms, wildlife habitat, shoreland, hiking trails, and more.
