The most famous Mon monarchs during this period were Queen Baña Thau (Burmese: Shin Sawbu; reigned 1453–1472) followed by Dhammazedi (reigned 1472–92). Queen Baña Thau personally chose Dhammazedi to succeed her. Dhammazedi had been a monk before he became king of Pegu. Under Dhammazedi, Pegu became a centre of commerce and Theravadan Buddhism. These two devout Buddhist monarchs initiated a long period of peace in Lower Burma.

With the dawn of the Galactic Empire, the Mon Calamari initially welcomed the Imperial forces when they entered their system. However, the Imperials saw the people of Dac—the Mon Calamari in particular—as natural slaves whose industries and resources could be used to power the Imperial war machine. Aided by the sabotage of the planetary shields by Quarren saboteurs such as Seggor Tels, the Empire swiftly conquered Mon Calamari.

Message Mon was introduced to the concept of God and higher beings at a young age through his parents and the Christian Church. At a young age he learned the concept of creation and the story of Jesus, and believed it then until this day. It was after a bad cocaine habit and a couple brushes with the law because of it, his life took a serious turn towards spiritual interest. This was when he discovered his purpose and took on his angel name "Message Mon". His spiritual and magical life began after an experience on a hill top, which lead him to a mountain top to eventually get his orders from the source himself. After 10 visits to the pyramid mountain, Message Mon was on a quest to fulfill his destiny as a spiritual warrior.

Circa 4,500 BBY, the Mon Calamari were attacked by the Quarren. The Mon Calamari, though less aggressive by nature, had much better technology, and won the war. In order to prevent future wars, the Mon Calamari took hundreds of young Quarren prisoners, taught them the ways of Mon Calamari civilization, then set them free. After the re-educated Quarrens gained control over Quarren civilization, peace between the two peoples continued for centuries (though it was sometimes a tense relationship).
