Molotov: Vyacheslav Molotov
built 613 days ago
The Molotov was a starship built by the Soviet Union and named for that country's long time General Secretary, Vyacheslav Molotov. In 2031, it had been launched from Earth and was en route to Home. Like the American starship Admiral Peary, its mission was to take the first step in establishing a permanent diplomatic and military presence in the Tau Ceti system for its parent nation. The Molotov did not have FTL capabilities, so presumably its passengers and crew were kept in cold sleep during travel.
Vyacheslav Molotov (1889-1986) was Foreign Minister of the Soviet Union at the time of the signing of the Nazi-Soviet Non-aggression Pact, August 23, 1939. News of the Pact stunned the world and paved the way for the beginning of World War Two with Hitler assured the Germans would not have to immediately fight a war on two fronts. In June, 1956, Molotov joined the group that unsuccessfully tried to oust Nikita Khrushchev as the new leader of the Soviet Union. Khrushchev demoted him to the position of ambassador to Mongolia. He was later denounced as being involved in the arrest and execution of Lev Kamenev, Gregory Zinoviev, Nickolai Bukharin, Alexei Rykov and other leading Bolsheviks in the 1930s. In 1964 Molotov was expelled from the party. Vyacheslav Molotov died in Moscow on 8th November, 1986.
Vyacheslav Molotov Molotov was born in the village of Kukarla (now Sovietsk in Kirov Oblast) as Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Skryabin (Скря́бин), son of a shop clerk. Contrary to a commonly repeated error, he was not related to the composer Alexander Scriabin [1]. He was educated at a secondary school in Kazan, and joined the Bolshevik faction of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party in 1906. For his political work he took the pseudonym Molotov (from the Russian molot, "hammer"). He was arrested in 1909 and spent two years in exile in Siberia. In 1911 he enrolled at the St Petersburg Polytechnic, and ... joined the editorial staff of Pravda, the underground Bolshevik newspaper, of which Joseph Stalin was editor.
