Born and raised in Johannesburg, the plucky 18-year-old Moira Lister decided to try her luck on the stages of England. And what luck she had! In addition to clinching a number of key Shakespearean roles, the young actress went on to play Regan to Sir John Gielgud's King Lear.

Moira Lister Moira Lister continued to perform until she was over 80. Most recently she appeared in London with her one-woman show about Noël Coward. She received the Naledi Award for services to the theatre in South Africa.

Moira Lister was born in Cape Town, South Africa, in 1923 to army Major James Lister and his wife, Margaret. She made her London stage debut at 14. In 1951, she married Jacques de Gachassin-Lafite Vicomte d'Orthez, a descendent of a distinguished French-Belgian family and a French cavalry officer. They had two daughters, Chantal and Christobel.

Moira Lister was born in Cape Town, South Africa on 6th August 1923. She started her acting career on the stage in South Africa at the age of just 6 years old. She appeared on the London stage at the age of 14 and started work in films in 1945. Always popular, she is usually seen in the role of a "posh" lady.
Born in Cape Town in 1923, the daughter of an army major, and educated at Parktown Convent, Johannesburg, Lister first appeared with the University Players in 1929 as the Prince in Ibsen's early play, The Vikings of Helgeland. She then acted opposite Sir Seymour Hicks in Vintage Wine in 1936 and later came to London. Her London debut was on April 12, 1937, as the 14-year-old Jeeby Cashler in Post Road at Golders Green Hippodrome.
Moira Lister, in common with Sid James, was born in South Africa. She first appeared in the English theatre in 1937, before returning to her native country and then finally re-emerging in the U.K., in Shakespeare, in 1945. She remained in this country to carve her career in radio, television, films and the theatre.
