Moby first started going to clubs as a teenager in 1980, a time many consider the golden age of New York nightlife.Since he has been heavily involved in New York's club scene. Last Night, Moby's latest album coming soon on Mute Records, is conceptually structured like one of those epic nights out, moving from the building excitement of the early evening to peak-time euphoria to 2 am confusion and the blissful peace of the early morning New York city sunrise.

sol -Clovervine-Slumber.jpg Moby has completed his new record which he is describing as "more electronic" and more "dance-oriented" than his previous 3 releases. The album is not yet titled, and the producer hopes to complete a 75 minute long ambient piece to include as a bonus disc before the album is distributed. He says that the first single may be out this year, and he is leaning toward one of the "piano-driven rave anthems" for the first single. MORE

Moby meets Nick Rhodes earlier this year. His band The Little Death can be seen at such venues as Arlene Grocery and Mercury Lounge. Here's the video for "Alice," a track of Moby's new album Last Night, set for release in late March. This is what the man himself has to say about it (from his blog):

In 2005 Moby released his album Hotel. Instead of his usual usage of samples, all of the vocals and instruments on Hotel were performed live in the studio by Moby and vocalist Laura Dawn, who is the Cultural Director of MoveOn.org.

Plunging into the unknown is typical of Moby (born Richard Melville Hall). In 1995, critics hailed his first album for Elektra Records, "Everything Is Wrong," as a landmark release whose stylistic fusion both challenged the mainstream and introduced DJ music to a wider audience. Spin magazine named it album of the year, and Moby, the Connecticut punk rocker-turned-New York City DJ, found himself elevated to the status of genius du jour.
