Moana Pozzi was among Italy's most popular and outspoken porn stars of the 1980s and early '90s. She was born Anna Moana Rosa Pozzi and raised in a middle-class Catholic Italian family. ROME — The husband of the late porn star Moana Pozzi told Italian news agency ANSA that he helped her die in September 1994 so she wouldn’t succumb to the slow, painful death of cancer. Italian police have now begun a probe into the performer’s death.Pozzi’s husband, Antonio Di Ciesco, told ANSA that he eased his wife’s pain by allowing air into her intravenous drip, ending her life.

Moana Pozzi was born in Genoa, Liguria. Her parents chose her name watching a geographic map of Hawaii: it means "where the sea is deeper". Her father was a nuclear engineer and he used to move for work around the world with the family. As a teen, Moana lived with the family in Canada, then in Brazil. At 13 years old, in 1974, Moana moved back to Italy with the family, where she finished high school. When the family had to move again to Lyon, France, she decided to start living independently in Rome around 1980 when she was around 19 years old.
