Mitsubishi Mitsubishi and DaimlerChrysler (DCX) parted ways this year, as DCX liquidated its partial ownership stake in the Mitsubishi Motors division. The two still seem on good terms... and are sharing custody of at least a couple of models, which they had planned to produce jointly. The 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer, for example, will share the Chrysler PT Cruiser's underpinnings, and DCX still manufactures the Raider truck for Mitsubishi. The Mitsubishi Galant, on the other hand, is more in limbo; it’s unclear whether DCX will help develop the redesign due the Galant by 2009 or 2010.

Ralliart500 Mitsubishi is filling the gap in its lineup between the 2009 Lancer GTS — which gets an improved 168-hp engine itself — and the top-of-the-line Lancer Evolution with the 2009 Ralliart that debuted here in Detroit. The Ralliart has a detuned version of the same turbocharged engine in the Evo, which puts out 235 hp. Amateur mechanics might have some fun trying to bump that number up.
