Miranda is a lazy, purely functional programming language. That is, it lacks side effects and imperative programming features. A Miranda program (called a script) is a set of equations that define various mathematical functions and algebraic data types. The word set is important here: the order of the equations is, in general, irrelevant, and there is no need to define an entity prior to its use.

Miranda IM is a non-profit open source project with the goal to develop a small, flexible and resource efficient multi protocol instant messenger for Windows. The project was started in early 2000 and all programming, design and support is done by volunteers.

This is a newer but beta version of Miranda. Miranda IM is a multi protocol instant messenger client. Miranda IM is designed to be resource efficient and easy to use. It uses very little memory and requires no installation. The powerful plugin system makes Miranda IM extremely flexible. Plugins can be installed to add support for ICQ, AIM, MSN, Jabber, Yahoo, Gadu-Gadu, Tlen, Netsend and other protocols.
