Airport Minsk-1 In the early years of the 20th century, Minsk was a major centre for the worker's movement in Belarus. The 1st Congress of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party, the forerunner to the Bolshevik and eventually the CPSU, was held there in 1898. It was ... one of the major centres of the Belarusian national revival, alongside Vilnia. However, the First World War affected the development of Minsk tremendously. These theories may appear sensible to an extent, but the fact is that Minsk has a very advantageous geographic position. This is why its history is full of blood-shedding warfare. The first one known to the scholars was registered in 'The Lay of lgor's Host'. The unknown author described the battle on the banks of the Nemiga River in March of 1067 as a vicious and senseless massacre, after which Minsk was ruined, its men murdered and women and children enslaved.
