If you tinker with it, keep it clean and make regular inspections then the Minsk will become a true friend. You will not see many of these bikes in the Hanoi as the locals consider themselves above such an ungainly, oil billowing reminder of past Russian dominance. In the mountains and hills... the Minsk rules supreme. Every mechanic knows how to fix a Minsk, and there are places everywhere selling spare parts. You can buy it new for around US$700 (including registration), or second hand for around US$400 (contact the Club for an offer). It’s got a top speed of around 85 kilometres an hour, its tank’s about 11 litres which will get you around 200 – 250 kilometres – the reserve will get you around 15 kilometres.
Satellite view Minsk is located on the southeastern slope of the Minsk Hills, a region of rolling hills running from the southwest (upper reaches of the river Nioman) to the northeast - that is, to the Lukomskaye lake in northwestern Belarus. The average altitude above sea level is 220 m. The geography of Minsk was formed during the two most recent Ice Ages. The Svislach river, which flows across the city from the northwest to the southeast, is located in the urstrohmtal, an ancient river valley formed by water flowing from melting ice sheets at the end of the last Ice Age. Minsk was initially founded on the hills. However, in the 20th century, it grew to include the relatively flat plains in the southeast. The western parts of the city are the most hilly.
The city lies over the Minsk Hills upon the both banks of the river Svisloch. Height on sea level within city varies from 184 before 280 metres. Being on crossing the strategic ways from the West to the East and from the North to the South, from Moscow to Warsaw and from Kiev to Vilnius, Minsk is a large transport centre with several bus stations, railway station, two airports (1 national) and underground.
