Milk: People

Milk is an important source of calcium and protein which are essential for growth and good health. Most people... never stop to think that there is an equally healthy alternative to cow milk. Consider goat milk. Even though cow milk is consumed in greater quantity in North America, more goat milk is consumed worldwide.

Milk is not something consumers buy or order with restaurant or take-out meals. Most people perceive eating out as a treat and tend to order "treat" drinks for themselves and their children, not milk. Consumers are very aware of how much milk they have in their house and how fresh it is. However, if running low on milk at dinnertime, most consumers will switch to something else, saving the milk for breakfast, instead of running to the store to buy more.
From the "Got Milk" campaign to get people to drink more milk, to the "Not Milk" campaign decrying the benefits of milk, claims surrounding milk consumption are constantly debated. Milk producers advocate the benefits of calcium, vitamin D, and other nutrients, while detractors mention possible links to cancer or other diseases.

Milk thistle ( Silybum marianum ) has been used since Greco-Roman times as an herbal remedy for a variety of ailments, particularly liver problems. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries physicians in the United States used milk thistle seeds to relieve congestion of the liver, spleen, and kidneys. Today, several scientific studies suggest that active substances in milk thistle (particularly silymarin) protect the liver from damage caused by viruses, toxins, alcohol, and certain drugs such as acetaminophen (a common over the counter medication used for headaches and pain; acetaminophen... called paracetamol, can cause liver damage if taken in large quantities or by people who drink alcohol regularly.)

Milk is the number-one beverage in American homes. But with today's busy lifestyles, consumers spend the majority of their time elsewhere. Studies consistently show that when milk is made available in the places people spend the most time, like work or school, adults and kids alike will choose milk.
The diverse board included the former police officer and firefighter Dan White as well as the gay and liberal Milk. White had to resign from being a firefighter as San Francisco charter barred people from holding two city jobs at the same time so he took up a second job to supplement the pay downgrade, running a restaurant business, which failed.[1] White, a Roman Catholic[2] and outspoken anti-gay conservative,[3] who was elected with strong support from the city's police union in part to fight "official tolerance of crime and of overt homosexuality"[4] was counterpoint to Milk, an outspoken liberal who "frequently opposed him on the board."[5]
