Mike Reid lost the 1989 PGA Championship to Payne Stewart, after bogeying and double bogeying two of the last three holes. Well, today, Mike Reid won the senior PGA Championship, eagling the last hole and forcing a playoff (after Jerry Pate played safe, but bogeyed). After the round, Reid broke down in tears, still moved by the memories of the late Payne Stewart and the 1989 PGA Championship.

Reid was six back with nine holes to play and three back with a hole remaining. But he got help, from a faltering Jerry Pate and Dana Quigley. Coming into the 18th, Pate was in command, leading by a stroke over Quigley and three over Reid.

Mike Reid’s Pussy In Boots (1994) - yep, that’s the title, in the tradition of Jacqueline Susann’s Once Is Not Enough and Gore Vidal’s Burr. Notice the obviously misleading double entendre? It turns out the title character Pussy is played by an upwardly nubile lass named Cindy Milo. The video contains photos of castmembers including, of course, Mr. Reid as well as John Altman ('Nasty Nick from EastEnders,' reads the copy) and 'Special Guest Star' Barbara Windsor. Babs, beloved of EE fans everywhere as 'Peggy Mitchell,' puts in an appearance as Wandawoman (get it?). Mr. Altman plays the Wicked Giant, more on that later.

Reid was born in Hackney, east London, in 1940 and began to earn money almost as soon as he could walk, according to his autobiography, T'rific. During the 50s and 60s he was a member of a north London gang that hijacked lorries, blew up safes and settled scores with shotguns.

Two weeks before he died, he had received a full medical examination and had been given a clean bill of health.[6] The 30 July 2007 EastEnders episode featured a dedication to him following the end credits. Mike's funeral was held on Tuesday 14th August 2007 at Little Easton Parish Church, Essex, and was attended by over 250 people including his former EastEnders co-stars Pam St Clement, Sid Owen, Michael Greco, June Brown and Barbara Windsor.

Mike Reid learned at an early age that golf was a game he could play anywhere, anytime, and with anyone. As the son of an Air Force officer, that was important, because the game was something he found he had in common with others wherever the family moved.
