Mika Salo, born in Helsinki, Finland on 30 November, 1966, is a fomer Scuderia Ferrari F1 Driver. He was three times Finnish Karting Champion before moving into professional motorsports. During his Formula 1 career, which included 110 starts, he raced for the legendary names of the sport, including Lotus, Tyrell, Arrows, Sauber, Toyota, and the penultimate: Ferrari.

Mika Salo will have his first race with the Audi R8 on March 15 at Sebring. A total of three Audi R8 sports cars will compete at the opening round of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). Salo joins Jonny Kane and Perry McCarthy in the Audi Sport UK R8. JJ Lehto, Stefan Johansson and Emanuele Pirro are the drivers for the Team ADT Champion Racing. The Audi R8 of Infineon Team Joest will be shared by Frank Biela, Philipp Peter and Marco Werner.

After the gearbox fails in his new Toyota The newly launched Toyota team were in action on the Paul Ricard circuit in France yesterday where Mika Salo was putting the new car through it's paces. Unfortunately, the Finn suffered a high-speed accident in the process when the gearbox failed. Thankfully Mika escaped the incident without any major injuries... it has been reported that he is suffering from slight back pain. Apparently the Finn was travelling at over 200 kilometres an hour when the gearbox failed and his new Toyota went crashing into a wall.

When Mika Salo makes his second American Le Mans Series start at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, there will be considerably more at stake than this time last year. The four-hour Monterey Sports Car Championships gives Salo and Jaime Melo the chance to wrap up their first GT2 driving title in the Series, a second straight team crown for Risi Competizione and Ferrari's first manufacturer championship.

With 111 Formula 1 starts to his credit, Salo has made an impressive jump to sports cars with 10 GT2 victories in the last two years for Risi Competizione. Salo and Jaime Melo are on the verge of sharing the class driver championship for the first time and giving Risi its second straight team crown as the duo prepares for its Petit Le Mans debut with Johnny Mowlem.

In 1985 Mika was Finnish champion of the FK 100cc A-class, before Jukka Savolainen and Mika Salo, in a Birel Parilla kart. He finished 2nd in the Nordic Championships A-class after Tom Kristensen from Denmark. Jonas Karlsson from Sweden finished 3rd, Mika Salo 7th. At the World Championship race in Parma, Italy, Mika Häkkinen did not made it to the final due to some mechanical problems. Salo finished 14th.
