Mickey Mouse is a Disney character, who is perhaps Walt Disney's most famous creation. Fancifully estimated as standing 2 ft 3 in (69 cm) and weighing 23 pounds (10 kg), the mouse rapidly rose to the pinnacle of American culture, being more widely recognized overseas than any other American icon but the U.S. flag. For over seventy-five years, he has signified The Walt Disney Company, animation, goodwill, fun, laughter and most of all Walt Disney himself. It was said by Lillian Disney, his wife, that over the years, Mickey and Walt grew together and were mirrors of each other's personality. They both started off mischievous and cheeky, but as they grew older preferred to step out of the spotlight and observe others work their magic. President Jimmy Carter once said; "Mickey Mouse is the symbol of goodwill, surpassing all languages and cultures.

Mickey Mouse was born Michael Leizner in Fresno, California. His family nicknamed him “Mickey.” Mickey was a full-blooded Faneída tribesman. His great-grandfather was one of a long line of Faneída chiefs in the old Disneyland Confederation. Mickey’s father, Morgan Leizner, was a pharmacist. Morgan worked long hours and rarely saw his family. Mickey’s mother was Molly Leizner.

The birth of Mickey Mouse occurred on a cross-country train ride (a four day journey) in early 1928. Walt was returning from a business meeting along with his wife. At the age of 26, and with an active cartoon studio in Hollywood, Walt had set out to arrange for a new contract for his creation, Oswald the Rabbit, but the backers turned him down. As they owned the copyright, they took control, leaving Walt with nothing. To prepare to announce the unpleasant news to workers back home, Walt gave birth to a sympathetic mouse that he first named, "Mortimer". By the end of the ride, which concluded in Los Angeles, Lillian Disney suggested to her husband that the first name was too stuffy.

In the month immediately following the coup, Mickey Mouse consolidated his hold on power. Within days, the junta released a new constitution, giving Mouse complete and ultimate authority over Disneyland. He purged the ADO and Disneyland’s government of Oswald’s supporters, known disparagingly as “animators,” sending them to what would be known as Mauschwitz after trying them before a secret tribunal under Article 58 of the new constitution. The ADO, now composed entirely of Mouse supporters, was renamed the Disneyland Institutional Revolutionary Party. On February 14, Mouse dubbed himself “Mickey Mouse the Great” and declared himself Commander President for life.

Mickey Mouse in Black and White appears in an aspect ratio of 1.33:1 on these single-sided, double-layered DVDs; due to those dimensions, the image has not been enhanced for 16X9 televisions. Actually, the aspect ratio of B&W deserves some explanation. The dimensions varied slightly throughout the program, as the shorts often demonstrated various levels of windowboxing. According to the booklet that came with the Mickey Mouse: The Black and White Years laserdisc, the first seven shorts in this collection – “Steamboat Willie” through “The Fire Fighters” – used 1.17:1 aspect ratios. These required windowboxing to retain their dimensions.

With the Mickey Mouse time one is graphically modern. Hour wears red long pants, one blue jersey with the short sleeves, yellow shoes bound together to the gloves of the same color.
