He is the first cartoon character to ever have a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Mickey Mouse, originally a theater animation, appeared on the big screen for the first time on November 18, 1928. You have to picture for yourself, the attraction, not only of a delightful cartoon character, but ... the lead player in the first ever sound cartoon, at a time when silent films were still playing in theaters. This was all brand new and innovative, and Steamboat Willie took the public by storm. He was the first animated international personality, who laid the groundwork for the entire Disney empire. When other cartoonists were experimenting with innuendo and sexuality, or stealing ideas from one another, the Walt Disney creations became original, enjoyable, and something for the entire family, regardless of age to enjoy together.

Mouse, along with other members of the military, grew frustrated with the worsening conditions in Disneyland. In late December 1955, Mouse called for a secret meeting among a selected elite group of military officers. On the quiet Sunday morning of January 22, 1956, the junta staged a takeover of government ministries, facilities, and military bases. Oswald Rabbit was killed in gunfire near Disneyland’s airport. The successful Coup de Rat at the time received wide public support from a people tired of the chaos, uncertainty, and economic deprivations.

Mickey and Minnie Mouse (Mickey's girlfriend) debuted in the cartoon short Plane Crazy, first released on May 15, 1928. The short was co-directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. Iwerks was ... the main animator for this short, and reportedly spent six weeks working on it. In fact, Iwerks was the main animators for every Disney short released in 1928 and 1929. Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising also assisted Disney during those years. They had already signed their contracts with Charles Mintz, but he was still in the process of forming his new studio and so for the time being they were still employed by Disney. This short would be the last they animated under this somewhat awkward situation.
