The invention of the TRX by Michelin in 1973 was the first instance of tyre and rim being designed to work together as a single unit. The new TRX rim was designed with a lower, flatter flange than that of conventional rims. The bead of the TRX tyre was ... altered to suit this new rim design and the result is a more gradual curvature of the tyre sidewall giving exceptional directional stability and ‘on the limit’ handling, whilst also allowing for a comfortable ride.

In 1940, because of the risk of bombing, Michelin removed the three stained glass windows. They were carefully packed into wooden crates and sent to the Stoke-on-Trent factory for safe keeping. After the war, Michelin returned its headquarters to London. The reduced staff meant only the front original part of the building was occupied, while the rest of the building was leased. In 1950, a long term lease was signed by a new tenant which consisted of the space created in the 1912 and 1922 extensions. In 1952, an extension was added for the tenant.

To evaluate the culinary and service aspects of each restaurant and hotel, highly trained Michelin inspectors anonymously visited each establishment and provided objective evaluations. Stars are awarded by the Michelin inspectors to restaurants offering the finest cooking, regardless of the style of cuisine or level of comfort. The stars judge only the quality of the cuisine. Five criteria are used in determining a star rating: the quality of products, the mastering of flavors and cooking, the "personality" of the cuisine, the value for money and the consistency.

The Michelin Challenge Design was established in 2002 as a way to bring forward and display significant design work, much of which would not normally have the opportunity to be displayed at a major international auto show. At the 2002 NAIAS, works based upon the theme of Italian design were displayed during press and public days. The theme for the 2003 NAIAS brings together works representative of the past, present and future of French design.
