A brief explanation of Michelin stars: to get any at all is considered an achievement. One star doesn’t mean merely “good,” as it does in The Times, which has a four-star scale. It signals a genuinely noteworthy place that stands out from the pack. Three stars — Michelin’s top rating — signal a died-and-went-to-heaven dining experience. Two stars mean a restaurant that’s more than noteworthy but not quite celestial.
