Michelin: Michelin Guide

LAS VEGAS, Nov 13, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- The debut of the Michelin Guide in Las Vegas is a European nod to Las Vegas' evolution into one of the world's top dining destinations. Sixteen restaurants were honored with at least one Michelin star, and seven of those restaurants are within MGM MIRAGE properties. Receiving top honors is the Michelin three-star restaurant, Joel Robuchon at MGM Grand, the only Las Vegas recipient of this well-respected distinction.
The Michelin Guide awards restaurants between one and three stars, and they are coveted. Getting one, or one more, can create a legend; losing one can result in significant heartbreak. The Guide itself says that "certain establishments deserve to be brought to your attention" because of the quality of the cuisine served. Since the Michelin Guide started out as a guide to road-touring, the stars are not only associated with quality, but with driving value.

As part of its meticulous and highly confidential evaluation process, Michelin inspectors - both European and American - are currently conducting anonymous inspections in Los Angeles and Las Vegas restaurants and hotels. As with all Michelin Guide inspections, the process involves test meals or overnight stays at each establishment by Michelin inspectors, in order to assess the level and the consistency of the establishment. As with all of the Guides for all countries, inspectors pay all of their bills at restaurants and hotels and are all full-time Michelin employees.
Michelin Musings Now in its second year, the Michelin guide to New York City restaurants, along with the stars that Michelin doled out, will receive less attention than it did last year. But there are indeed some attention-worthy, or at least discussion-prompting, developments in this new Michelin survey, the results of which have just been released.
The Michelin Guide offers a broad selection of hotels and restaurants in each price and comfort category, taking into account each country's local environment. This rating is unique and consistent across all countries covered by the Michelin Guide. It is expressed in two ways:
The 2 biggest omissions Michelin made was Union Square Cafe and Sushi Yasuda (the best Sushi place in NY). The fact that Spotted Pig and La Goulue get a star and USC and SY doesn’t gives the guide a lack of credibility amongst foodies.
