The plea agreement (PDF) for star quarterback Michael Vick has been filed in federal court. In the statement of facts (PDF) accompanying the agreement, Vick admits involvement in the dogfighting conspiracy (including funding it), but declines to admit a number of other allegations. According to ESPN, Vick claims that he "did not place side bets and did not receive proceeds from purses from the fights."

Think back to August, to the day Michael Vick went before the cameras after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors on charges that he financed and participated in a dogfighting operation. He expressed remorse for what he had done and the many fans he had disappointed. Afterward, pundits remarked how Vick had been "forthcoming" and "honest" and "contrite." His supporters said he was accepting responsibility for his mistakes, the first step in rebuilding his image and life.

Michael Vick deserves every minute of jail time he receives. When originally charged, he denied any knowledge of dogfighting taking place on his premises. Now his lawyer claims he accepted responsibility from the beginning. His lawyer should be thrown in the dog pit along with Vick.
