Velvet Rope's cover, shot by photographer Ellen von Unwerth, featured a red-haired Jackson, with her head down and only the word "Janet" glazed over top of the image. The glazed letters were invisible except in reflection, so they do not appear in most pictures of the cover; they were not included on later pressings of the album. There was much speculation about the stories behind the songs, but Jackson has not divulged much about them.
