Disney-MGM Studios is a freestanding theme park more closely situated to Epcot and Downtown Disney than the Magic Kingdom. By Disney’s definition it is a working movie and television studio theme park. Disney-MGM Studios can be described as having drawn the best of Epcot, that is experiencing education and learning, and combined it with the magic and excitement of the Magic Kingdom. Participants for "Walk In and Win" Week must be at the Main Entrance of the Disney-MGM Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida starting at 6:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 14. No one will be admitted to the parking lot before 6:00 A.M. Space is limited to 1,500 people. Participants will be admitted on a first-come first-serve basis. Only those people who are participating in "Walk In and Win" Week will be admitted. A random drawing will be conducted with all the people who are in line by 7:30 A.M. (maximum of 1,500 people). 325 people will be selected by a random drawing to be in the studio audience and given the opportunity to be selected to play in the hot seat for $1 million.

The Disney-MGM Studios opened its doors to the public on May 1, 1989. This 135-acre theme park is a fully functional studio that produces movies, animations, and radio broadcasts. The Disney MGM Studios is divided into 'famous' streets and areas such as: Hollywood Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard, New York Street, Dalmatian Avenue, the Animation Courtyard, and Echo Lake.

Disney's plans for what became the Disney-MGM Studios theme park at Walt Disney World Resort included working production facilities for movies and television shows and a satellite animation studio, which began operation prior to the park's debut. In 1988, MGM/UA responded by filing a lawsuit that claimed Disney violated the 1985 agreement by operating a working movie and television studio at the Florida resort.

The Disney-MGM Studios normal hours of operation are 9am-7pm, with extended hours during the summer and school vacation periods. If you are a Walt Disney World resort guest then you participate in Early Bird Mornings. Early Bird Mornings take place on Wednesdays and Sundays at The Disney-MGM Studios. Here resort guests can ride selected attractions 1½ hours before they open to the public.
