Scuba Diving in Cozumel & along the Yucatán's Caribbean Coast: The coral reefs off the island, Mexico's premier diving destination, are among the top 5 dive spots in the world. The Yucatán's coastal reef is part of the second-largest reef system in the world and affords excellent diving. Especially beautiful is the Chinchorro Reef, 32km (20 miles) offshore from Majahual or Xcalak. You can ... dive in the clear, cool water of the many caverns and [C]enotes (sinkholes, or natural wells) that dot the interior. Other excellent dive sites are in and around Puerto Vallarta and off Los Cabos.

Mexico is the 12th largest economy in the world by gross domestic product (GDP) by purchasing power parity. The economy is strongly linked to those of its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners. Elections held in July 2000 marked the first time that an opposition party won the presidency from the Institutional Revolutionary Party (Partido Revolucionario Institucional: PRI) which had held it since 1929, culminating the political alternation at the federal level, which had begun at the local level during the 1980s.
Unique to the Americas, Mexico’s original inhabitants were made of more than Aztecs and Mayans. In Mexico today much of the population can trace their roots back to one region, and many have parents and grandparents that speak languages that are for the most part unrecognised in the rest of the world and even in much of Mexico. With so few people speaking these local languages, often many are close to becoming extinct. Today, 20 Mexican languages are seen as being threatened.
"We're proud of the rich history, nature, and traditions that Mexico and its people offer to visitors worldwide," said Magdalena Carral, CEO, Mexico Tourism Board. "This partnership with the World Heritage Alliance, along with the many governmental efforts already in place, will continue to help to build awareness and responsible travel to our many World Heritage sites."
Mexico is among the world’s most open economies, but it is dependent on trade with the U.S., which bought 86% of its exports in 2005. Top U.S. exports to Mexico include electronic equipment, motor vehicle parts, and chemicals. Top Mexican exports to the U.S. include petroleum, cars, and electronic equipment. There is considerable intra-company trade.
