Nightlife in Mexico City is amazingly diverse, starts late and covers just about every form of entertainment imaginable. From small salsa clubs and crowded discos to live concerts featuring the world's most popular stars. Ballet, theatre, folkloric shows, opera and philharmonic orchestras are every bit as common as the all night disco and drinking scene. Boxing and wrestling events are held on most weekend nights. At Garibaldi Plaza the numerous Mariachi bands often play into the wee hours of the morning.

Next to oil, the most important source of exports are the industrial assembly plants (maquiladoras) that dot Mexico's border towns. Since the early 1980s there has been considerable foreign investment in the maquiladoras, which take advantage of a large, low-cost labor force to produce finished goods for export to the United States. These plants have increased Mexico's export production considerably. The economic importance of the maquiladoras... is exceeded by tourism. Favorite tourist centers include Acapulco, Cancún, Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán, Cabo San Lucas, and Tijuana, as well as Mexico City itself and such highland centers as Guadalajara and Puebla. Travel in Mexico is generally safe. However travelers are targeted by criminals in well-touristed areas such as Mexico City and the beach resorts. Most of these incidents involve petty theft but more serious crimes such as kidnappings and sexual assaults do occur. Recently, there have been reports of violent armed robberies by paramilitary-style criminals in Baja California, who have been targeting American surfers. Travelers should use common sense at all times to avoid any potential risks and take extra caution at night.

Mexico is a large country with regions which are very different from each other. The interior sections of Mexico are full of beautiful mountain cities with Spanish Colonial architecture. These cities will range from large modern cities like Monterrey and Mexico City to quaint pueblos like San Luis Potosi and San Miguel. Virtually all of the inland destinations from Mexico City and on south offer the addition of ruins from a once mighty civilization which rivaled the Roman empire 2000 years ago.
