More ominously, the Mexican-American War raised the explosive issue of whether slavery should be permitted in the newly acquired territories. Less than two decades later, this issue would help to speed America toward its greatest tragedy: The Civil War.
The Mexican American War tells the still-controversial story of President James K. Polk's desire to expand U.S. territory to the Pacific Ocean. First offering to purchase the land from Mexico, Polk ultimately had to resort to war to achieve his goal. Knowing he had strong military superiority, Polk hoped the war would last only a few weeks but underestimated the passion of Mexicans to defend their country. It would take two years for Army Generals Zachary Taylor and Winfield Scott to bring Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna to the bargaining table. And that only occurred when American forces occupied and controlled Mexico's capital, Mexico City.

Mexican American War [R]esulted due to the disputes originating from America's plan to confiscate large areas from Mexico. America had plans of extending its territory to the Pacific Ocean. After the Louisiana territory was annexed by President Jefferson, the immigrants started settling in the lands which were not theirs.
