Metroid Prime

The Metroid Prime series is the Metroid series in 3D as an FPS. They still have the same basic layout and philosophy of the original 2D games.... They are largely, up until Corruption, a side story to Samus's adventures fighting space pirates and preventing the exploitation of the Metroids. However, Corruption looks to be an epic story tying the Prime series directly into the original series.

The stage before Metroid Prime, there is a large room filled with respawning Fission Metroids. To deal with the ones following you and to dispatch them quickly, just wait by the missile station. When one or two (more often) come near you, just walk into the station and fire away. To deal with the ones that follow you there before then, roll up into a ball and wait for them to rear back. Just before they charge, lay a power bomb and before they can touch you, they are dead.

Like you’d expect, Metroid Prime 2’s world is split into two, with the ability to venture to Dark and Light Aether. Both maps are exactly the same in design, only each world has slightly different terrain and atmosphere. This doesn’t mean the main world is small; though not quite as vast as Metroid Prime’s, it’s still very large and full of hidden/locked locations to discover as you recover/earn new weapons. Both Light and Dark worlds play pivotal roles in events taking place in the opposite universe, which becomes the main gameplay hook. For instance, you will see objects appear in one world, but they’re incomplete and not useable. However, when you discover their full shape in the proper area, they unlock or clear the way for advancement in the opposite land.

Metroid Prime is an action-packed adventure set in the first-person perspective that takes place just after the events in the original Metroid (NES). It has lead character Samus Aran, a bounty hunter by trade, chasing down the evil Space Pirates. Their intention is to use a genetic mutagen called Phazon to create a super army and take over the universe. While the installments in the series before have never been home to deeply involving storylines, Metroid Prime breaks the shell to offer up one of the most intriguing and read-worthy sagas yet. Developed by Texas-based Retro Studios. Metroid Prime brings all of the elements of the acclaimed franchise into a gaping 3D arena.

The first form is Metroid Prime with thick plating all around itself save for the eyes. It uses a shielding system where the color of its body indicates what beam is its weakness. The same can be said of the color of the beam it fires from its massive maw (which spans the bottom of its entire carapace.) Purple is the Wave Beam, white is the Ice Beam, red is the Plasma Beam, and yellow is the Power Beam. Samus must charge the beam required and fire it at Metroid Prime's eyes to damage it. Metroid Prime will retaliate by ramming Samus, which she can avoid by entering Morph Ball form. It will ... attack with Ultra-frigid Breath, Multi-Missiles, Snare Beams, and Particle Wave Projectors. As Metroid Prime takes more damage, it retreats into deeper caverns.

The visor system was an innovative addition in Metroid Prime, allowing you to see in a number of different spectrums and consequently facilitating plenty of new puzzle opportunities. In addition to the standard combat and scan visors, Echoes gives you the dark visor and the echo visor, each accompanied by nifty visual filters and unique properties. The dark visor lets you see more clearly in Dark Aether and ... makes interdimensional items and enemies show up in bright red. The echo visor literally lets you see in terms of sound, acting as a sort of sonar overlaid on the environment and allowing you to interface with sonic locking mechanisms. Again, these new visors allow for some ingeniously tricky puzzles.
