Metroid Prime: Samus Aran

The whole atmosphere of Metroid Prime is amazing; it continues the greatness of the Metroid franchise. Super Metroid fans will be more pleased than others since Metroid Prime takes much of what was awesome about Super Metroid and put it into Prime in some shape or form. Super Metroid fans who remember the Chozo statue carrying Samus in ball form over a pit of deadly spikes should know what I’m talking about.

Despite Samus killing Metroid Prime and causing the cavern to collapse on itself, it was reborn. With the absorption of the Phazon Suit and Samus's DNA, the Phazon that Prime left behind was able to reconstruct itself into a body similar to Samus's. It could now travel across space and was more powerful than it ever was before. It was dubbed "Dark Samus" (or, as the Space Pirates called it, the "Dark Hunter") due to the dark color of its suit and its malevolent nature.

The core of Metroid prime was weakened, and grabbed out at anything nearby. She grabbed onto Samus's suit, and began to pull her in. Samus fought against her, but Metroid Prime somehow removed the Phazon suit, leaving Samus in her gravity suit. The creature then started to expand and die, and while the impact crater collapsed, Samus escaped.

Once Samus has defeated Metroid Prime's second form, it morphs into an odd looking blob, similar to a Metroid or a Core-X from Metroid Fusion. Tentacles will come out of it and grab Samus. Despite Samus resisting, it takes her Phazon Suit and all other sources of Phazon in the general vicinity and explodes, causing the entire cavern to collapse with Samus barely escaping. Samus races to her gunship, observes Tallon IV in its destroyed state, and leaves the planet. The Hatchling has fulfilled the prophecy.

When Space Pirate activity is detected on Tallon IV, Samus Aran is sent to investigate in the Nintendo GameCube's November 2002 release Metroid Prime. This is Samus Aran's first 3D adventure and while some will call the game a first person shooter without hesitation, I prefer to think of it as a first person exploration game because while there is a lot of emphasis on the typical FPS-style action, most of the gameplay is spent hunting for items, switches, and goals.
