Mercury (Mythology): Planets
built 628 days ago
Of the inner planets, Mercury is actually the hardest to view. This is not because of how far it is away, but how close it is to the sun. Mercury can only be seen during dawn or dusk, but it is still a challenge to the naked eye or binocular observer. Your best bet is to check astronomy publications to find the best viewing months.
On March 23, 1996 there was a massing of the planets Mars (Michael), Mercury (Gabriel), and Saturn (Satan) in the sign of Pisces (the Redeemed). Then along came the unanticipated "great comet of 96" Hyakutake. The timing of the spectacular appearance of this comet is incredible. It’s closest approach to earth was on March 24/25, 1996. The path of the comet passed through LIBRA (the altar, or the price which covers); BOOTES (He cometh); URSA MAJOR (the fold and the flock or the great sheepfold); URSA MINOR (the lesser sheepfold); CASSIOPEIA (the captive delivered); and PERSEUS (‘The breaker" delivering the redeemed).
STILBON was the god of the wandering star (aster planetos) Hermaon, the planet Mercury. His name was derived from the Greek verb stilbô meaning "to gleam" or "glitter." Out of all the five planets, he was the least personified. The star belonged to Hermes, the herald of the gods.
