In its product manufacturer insert, Merck states that "Vaccination does not substitute for routine cervical cancer screening. Women who receive GARDASIL should continue to undergo cervical cancer screening per standard of care." Nastech and Merck will jointly develop PYY. Merck will assume primary responsibility for clinical and non-clinical studies and regulatory approval, while Nastech will be responsible for all manufacturing of PYY-related product. Merck will lead and fund commercialization, with Nastech having an option to co-promote the product in the United States.

Merck's vaccines use adenovirus instead of poxvirus vectors. Adenovirus vectors provide more prolonged AIDS virus antigen exposure than the GeoVax poxvirus vectors. Prolonged antigen exposure affects the state of elicited T cells and can compromise the ability to rapidly expand in the fight against an infection.

If the jury believes that the person took Vioxx regularly, they will hold Merck liable for the heart attack, said Robert Gordon, a plaintiff's lawyer at Weitz & Luxenberg. Mr. Gordon helped try a Vioxx case in New Jersey this spring in which a jury in state court awarded $4.5 million to Thomas McDarby, a 77-year-old man who suffered a heart attack after taking Vioxx for almost two years.
