Menopause: Woman
built 649 days ago
The Female Reproductive System Menopause is the point in a woman's life when menstruation stops permanently, signifying the end of her ability to have children. Known as the "change of life," menopause is the last stage of a gradual biological process in which the ovaries reduce their production of female sex hormones--a process which begins about 3 to 5 years before the final menstrual period. This transitional phase is called the climacteric, or perimenopause. Menopause is considered complete when a woman has been without periods for 1 year. On average, this occurs at about age 50. But like the beginning of menstruation in adolescence, timing varies from person to person.

Menopause is a natural part of a woman's life cycle. When a woman has passed through menopause, her monthly periods end and she no longer can get pregnant naturally. While menopause is challenging both emotionally and physically, many women welcome the new kind of life that menopause brings, with freedom from pregnancy and additional child-raising responsibilities. In the United States, the average age of menopause is 51 in non-smokers, 49 in smokers, and can range from ages 47 to 55.

The menopausal period affects each woman differently. Some start early, some start and stop, but most experience the change around the age of fifty. It usually lasts up to five years. Although estrogen levels drop during the post menopausal period, the hormones do not disappear. Stress puts a burden on the adrenal glands, causing them to overwork.
Menopause is the time when a woman passes from her childbearing years. It concerns the time in a woman's life when some important experiences that have defined her life cease to be. Menopause is a transformational process, a letting go of the old self with a rebirth of a new self. The passage is a different experience for each woman, but it is a journey every woman must make.
Menopause is a normal change in a woman’s life when her period stops. It is often called the “change of life.” During menopause, which usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 55, a woman’s body slowly makes less of the hormones estrogen and progesterone. A woman has reached menopause when she has not had a period for 12 months in a row, and there are no other causes for this change. As you near menopause, you may have symptoms from the changes ocurring in your body. Many women wonder if these changes are normal, and many are confused about how to treat their symptoms. You can feel better by learning all you can about menopause and talking with your doctor about your health and symptoms.
