The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh was founded in 1908 and incorporated as a not-for-profit organization on September 24, 1951. The Choir is renowned for its diverse repertoire, including oratorio, symphonic, opera, Broadway, and folk music. The Choir is composed of more than 120 volunteer singers and a 20-voice professional core; the Choir performs as a full choir and ... as a 20-voice chamber chorus. Collectively, these members contribute nearly 30,000 hours of volunteer service annually to the art of creating magnificent choral music.
[E]stablished in 1986 by Robert Page and Christine Jordanoff as a joint training and performance project of the Mendelssohn Choir and the Carnegie Institute, the Junior Mendelssohn has since become the major component of the Mendelssohn Choir’s educational/outreach program. It is designed to complement the school vocal music curriculum and is offered to students in every school district in the greater Pittsburgh area. Scholarships and mentoring are provided for students requiring this assistance.
