Melty Blood - Melty Blood is a [D]oujin (fan-made) fighting game based on the doujin game Tsukihime; it's a game made by amateurs (Watanabe Production) based on an original game made by amateurs (TYPE-MOON). Ironic, eh? The popularity of Tsukihime ... led to the anime Shingetsutan Tsukihime that was released in 2003. Melty Blood has a lot of the features of Party's Breaker, solid gameplay, and cool characters. Revolve is currently working on an English patch. If you know anyone who can translate Japanese to English, send them on over!

Melty Blood is a two-dimensional versus fighting game featuring characters from the visual novel Tsukihime. The game was developed by Watanabe Seisakujo (later French Bread) with the blessing and support of Type-Moon, the creators of Tsukihime. The game features very high production values for a doujin game, with character animation comparable to SNK’s Mark of the Wolves and high-quality voice work from professional Japanese voice actors. Recently, a highly-polished and revised version of the game was released in Japanese arcades and will be released on the Playstation 2 in August 2006.

The Melty Blood games have an odd anomaly with walking backwards that renders crossups effectively useless. While walking backwards, characters will not turn around until their state changes. However, their current state is considered a valid blocking state for high attacks, which means that any attacks that hit after you switched sides (while you are in the air or after you land) will be blocked. However, once they block the first attack the character will turn around, and will get hit by any followup attacks if they do not adjust accordingly.

The tale of Melty Blood: Act Cadenza is almost hilariously convoluted. What started off as a porn graphic adventure for the PC known as Lunar Legend Tsukihime, was turned into a homemade (or “doujinshi”) fighting game called Melty Blood by a company called French Bread. Now, most Japanese doujinshi fighters are pretty subpar, sticking in tons of doe eyed schoolgirls in place of actual quality gameplay, but this one actually turned out to be pretty decent. Instead of suing them, like most copyright holders would do here in America, the company behind Tsukihime officially licensed the game and brought it out to Japanese arcades. Melty Blood: Act Cadenza, the latest attempt to jam a bunch of nonsensical English words in a title, and the most recent iteration of the series, has arrived the Playstation 2, which is a much more suitable platform than the PC.

Like the original Melty Blood, it suffered from often-amusing glitches and balancing errors, such as an early infinite combo where Len could throw Shiki back and forth forever. The last major patch, Final Tuned2) added a control option to switch between the original PC-style commands and the new Arcade-style commands from Act Cadenza and a hidden System Direction screen. Like the System Direction screen in Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, you can adjust various settings related to the game’s “rules,” such as speed, number of successive air dashes, gauge display and critical hit rate. You can access this screen by highlighting Options on the menu, then holding D while selecting it

Melty Blood: Actress Again has been recently announced for the year 2008. It is confirmed to be in 2D as its predecessors and two new characters have been confirmed. All characters now feature 3 different fighting styles, known as Full Moon Style(Power), Crescent Moon Style(Speed) and Waning Moon Style(Unknown). More announcements and improvements have yet to be revealed. An odd omission from the character select screen is the lack of Hisui(solo), Kohaku(solo), Neco-Arc and Neco-Arc Chaos, despite a screenshot featuring a new attack for Neco-Arc.
