Melty Blood: Characters
built 656 days ago
Melty Blood: Act Cadenza ver.B PC is a Windows PC port of the arcade ver.B2. It has added features including tag-team mode, a 4-player team battle mode, a programmable dummy for training purposes and a new hidden boss character, Neco-Arc Chaos Black G666(replacing G-Akiha from Melty Blood: Re-ACT). It ... included subtle gameplay changes, most notably altered defense ratings for characters and adjustments to the game's input system. Because of this, it is not considered an arcade-perfect version of B2. It was released on July 27, 2007[3].
The characters in Melty Blood are your typical anime designs. Most of the characters are females, and this includes an assortment mainly made up of schoolgirls and maids, although there are ... a small number of demon or vampiric characters present as well. That said, the characters all have some interesting special attacks, such as throwing various household objects, using whips, summoning other characters to attack for them, and in one case, you can select two maid characters that fight together.

Reverse Beat: A feature of Melty Blood not found in many other games is the ability to cancel attacks with large amounts of recovery into fast jab attacks... negating the disadvantage of using heavy slow attacks against a blocking opponent. This features extremely heavily in high-level play for most of the characters.
Melty Blood is probably the most popular doujin game in existence. With brilliant gameplay, soundtrack, voices, characters and more, Melty Blood is a brilliant fighting game. Featuring a cast from Tsukihime and Kagetsu Tohya, there is a wide range of people to pick from, and each character has an in depth set of skills and techs, to add to the strategic gameplay.
An in-game screenshot depicting the concept of shielding in Melty Blood Re-ACT: Final Tuned In the original Melty Blood, only six of these characters were available to be played, with eight more being unlockable through story-mode. However, in a later update released for the game (the 'Nero' patch), all the characters are available from the start. The reasons for this are slightly unclear; they appear to be the result of a legal misunderstanding whereby TYPE-MOON mistakenly thought they would no longer be allowed to produce updates/patches, and ... made a 'last patch' which unlocked the characters as a sort of gift for the fans. Whatever the reason, TYPE-MOON has left these characters available throughout all subsequent releases. In addition, Aoko and Kouma were both added to the game as of Act Cadenza, although Aoko was an unplayable 'boss character' in previous versions. Act Cadenza also changed the given names of several characters, generally to make identification of the doppelgangers by name easier.
Another Doujin series that has proven immeasurably popular is Type-Moon and Watanabe Productions’ collaboration of Melty Blood. Sounding like something you get from leaving Dracula’s freezer unplugged, Melty Blood is actually based on the virtual novel Tsukihime, which features a dark and complex, interwoven storyline. Befitting this, the fighter interpretation is ... crowned with a dark and gothic tone which feels an entire world away from the saccharine sweetness of wide-eyed girls in short skirts and kitten ears on their heads. Melty Blood’s assembled fighters are a motley crew of unhinged individuals that range from vampiric Acueid Brunestud, pugilistic chambermaids Hisui and Kohaku, to angry Harry Potter look-alike (and main protagonist) Shiki Tohno and Sion Eltnam Atlasia, a Holy Girl Guide with some serious issues. In short, each character feels unique and has their own place in the grand scheme of things, which is certainly not surprising given the wealth of back-story provided by Tsukihime. Unfortunately it is a real shame that while English patches of the game do exist, the translation only applies to the game’s menus rather than its actual story mode meaning those lacking a thorough knowledge of Japanese will miss most of what is going on. Thankfully for those who just want to get on with the fighting Arcade, VS and Practice modes are also present.
