Melanoma: Melanoma Program
built 614 days ago
The Melanoma Foundation has been on the cutting edge of skin cancer prevention education in the country and the first organization of its kind in the community. After extensive review of health education literature, the Foundation selected the successful SunSmart™ curricula from Australia on which to base its many programs and adapt to local educational standards and environment. The Foundation utilizes SunSmart America™ for grades K-12. All take home activities are available in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, and Portuguese.
"Melanoma is a key indication in our current Phase 3 development program", said Dr. Loretta M. Itri, M.D., Genta's President for Pharmaceutical Development and Chief Medical Officer. "A methodological error may have impacted ODAC deliberations, which voted unanimously that an improvement in PFS of some magnitude represents clinical benefit that could support regular approval in advanced melanoma."

Figure1: Large, plump osteoclasts (OCL) resorbing bone (BONE). The divots in the adjacent bone indicate that these osteoclasts are active. Now Don Looney and Dr. Jane Grant-Kels, a dermatologist at UConn who heads the Melanoma Program, have joined forces and become a team to try to make this support group available to more patients. In addition, Dr. Grant-Kels will help “support the support group” by making speakers of interest available to the group. Oncologists, dermatologists, surgeons, nutritionists, psychiatrists all can be invited to speak with the group and answer their questions.
The Melanoma Program provides full clinical services to patients with melanoma including examination, staging, and treatment of the disease. Evaluation, treatment, and follow-up are coordinated between clinical services including Dermatology, Plastic Surgery, Surgery, and Medical Oncology, as well as with the referring physician.
