Melanie Griffith, who was born on August 9, 197 in New York City, is the only child of actress Tippi Hedren and Peter Griffith, who divorced when she was four years old. Griffith's first television appearance was on a commercial when she was nine months old. Her first major role was in Arthur Penn's Night Moves in 1975. After battling it out with substance abuse problems for nearly a decade, she made a come back, appearing on Jonathan Demme's Something Wild in 1986.
