When Mega Man Legends came out for the Playstation, that changed everything. Equal parts RPG, action, adventure, 3-D platformer, Mega Man Legends could have been a different series entirely except for the fact that it had the Mega Man “feel” to it. It’s nothing I can explain—certainly it’s easy enough to put popular characters into a generic game—but every aspect of Mega Man Legends feels like it was conceived as a Mega Man game from the start. The original Mega Man series originally succeeded because it was so formulaic—you knew what to expect—then ultimately failed for the same reason—playing a Mega Man game became nothing new. Mega Man Legends changed all that and is regarded widely as one of the best games of the entire Mega Man oeuvre.

In Mega Man Legends for PlayStation ( Mega Man 64 for Nintendo 64 ), Wily makes an appearance as the owner of "Wily Boat", which is a boat rental shop. This is the only Mega Man game in which he actually helps Mega Man.

The Author stayed absent for all of the recreation of the First Mega Man game, but in the aftermath (which broke from the script), he was captured by Dr. Wily [53]. Wily planned to kill The Author because he was sick of being the villain in the strip, and at first Mega Man seemed to like the idea [54]. Mega Man and Proto Man at first went to stop Wily, but upon the proposal of never having to do this again, they stopped and allowed the evil scientist to proceed [55]. The attack on The Author [56], which was presumed to have killed him, sent an obliterating shockwave out, first attacking the main characters [57], then Roll and a debuting in Bob and George Bass [58] [59].

Some of the remixed songs are cool, but you just can’t beat the original Mega Man music. Even though the quality isn’t the best, it really is good music. In the newer generation of Mega Man games the sound effects change for the worse, and they attempt to incorporate poor voice acting.

This is the first Mega Man game in the U.S. to have box art showing Megaman's Mega-Buster as a part of his left arm. In the U.S. artwork for the two previous games, Mega Man carried a handgun in his left hand.

[N]ot withstanding the sheer fun of the Mega Man games themselves, things really scream straight-jacket when you consider the value. Ten games ﾖ count ﾑem, 10 Mega Man games ﾖ for the suggested retail price of $30.
