Mega Man: Robots

For newbies who don't know much about the series, Mega Man is a blue robot with a heart of gold. In Japan, his name was Rock Man. His sister robot was named Roll. Rock and Roll. Oh, the wit.

A theme that seems to be apparent in Mega Man's character is that much like Pinocchio, he is very similar to a real boy and constantly developing into one. However, unlike Pinocchio, he does not aspire to be "real." Although Mega Man has rarely or possibly never admitted that he is in fact not a human, but rather a robot designed to look and act like a human, he may often consider himself more human than machine.

In Mega Man's previous quest, he finally captured the notorious Dr. Wily and imprisoned him in the highest security prison of the city. Peace began to return to the troubled land, and with Wily safely behind bars, it seemed the threat had finally ended. Of course, Dr. Wily thought that someday he might be captured, and had planned for this day. Hidden away in a secret laboratory were four advanced Robot Masters, created just for this occasion. After some time of Dr. Wily's absence, they activate and come out of hiding to retrieve their master. Storming the prison, the four robots easily rescue Wily and escape with him.

The last and probably best Mega Man X for the SNES makes several jumps forward for the series. It somehow includes a slick anime intro, brings back the C4 chip technology, and allows you to play as Zero for the first time (albeit in a very limited sense). The story begins with a robot named Dr. Doppler, and his crusade to deprogram Mavericks with his latest invention, the Neuro Computer. It turns out that Doppler has some foul intentions, and all of the robots he supposedly fixed begin to revolt.

Once all of the Robot Masters have been defeated, Mega Man returns to the lab and finds it half-totaled. Dr. Light is fortunately unharmed, but he tells Mega Man that Bass was the culprit. Bass and Treble had apparently been one of Dr. Wily's creations all along (Dr. Wily ... seems to have caught on to Dr. Light's love of musical names). Bass had ransacked the lab, taking a copy of the blueprints for Dr. Light's new upgrade, the Super Adapter, which is a combination of the Rush Jet Suit and Rush Power Suit from Mega Man 6 (Mega Man can get his own Super Adapter by collecting the R, U, S & H panels that are scattered throughout the first four levels.) Wily then comes on the damaged lab screen and taunts Mega Man.

Before Dr. Light ever constructed what would eventually become Mega Man, he first designed the Robot Master known as "Proto Man" ("Blues" in Japan) which similar to his name was designed as a prototype of his future creations. Proto Man had the ability to lead a small squad of other robots in military applications. However, before testing of his AI, or his complete system was finished, the robot escaped and was thought to have been destroyed.
