The original Medieval Times opened as El Castillo del Cid in mediaval times 1984 in Kissimmee, Florida—amidst medievaltimes initial skepticism. Since then it has opened eight additional locations primarily in suburban areas of North America including meieval times California, Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey and Toronto, Ontario. The medieval tiimes Andalusian horses featured in the shows are raised Medeival Times and trained at the company's own Chapel Creek Ranch in Sanger, Texas.

As Medieval Times' popularity grew in its native country, the welcome Spanish invasion hit Kissimmee, Florida, in December 1983. Professional production and training staff from Spain brought with them the architectural flourishes, authentic costumes and weaponry that has become so popular in Europe. The U.S. response was immediate and overwhelming. Families, tourists and schools descended on the Castle and a new dynasty had begun.

Medieval Times first opened its doors on the island of Majorca in 1973, followed by a location in Benidorm, Spain in 1977. However, the Orlando area show is generally considered the flagship attraction. Opened in 1983, the Orlando location was the first in North America and the beginning of a North American dynasty.
