Mazda’s short but rich history at the 24 Hours of Le Mans was primarily initiated by Yojiro Terada, who first entered the race with a car powered by the 12A rotary engine in 1973. Terada now heads Auto Exec. The car’s suspension has been tuned, giving the compact roadster better balance (the car’s understeering character has been mostly dialed out). Auto Exec hasn’t decided to come to the U.S. market yet, but a company spokesman says that day may come sooner than later.

Two imporant Mazda performance parts are the engine and the turbo. Mazda engines are considered as one of the top performers among other branded power trains. Engine block heater, torque converter and engine oil cooler are just a few of the important accessories for the engine. Torque converter is used to improve or increase acceleration even if the amount of power produced is only at a minimum. It can multiply the amount of torque produced at a ratio of almost 2:1. Engine block heater is important especially during extremely cold weather conditions by adding heat or increasing temperature to achieve the right temperature for the engine to function.

Like the Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner before it, the Mazda Tribute gets a much-needed face-lift inside and out for 2008, including its hybrid version shown here. The main attraction of the Tribute Hybrid is its pairing of a 2.3-liter four-cylinder gas engine with a 70-kilowatt electric motor. The combined horsepower is rated at 155, but the company says that’s more equivalent to a 200-hp gas engine. The small SUV can travel up to 25 mph on the electric motor alone.

The 2008 Mazda Tribute has been redesigned on the outside and inside, although the engines and chassis are the same. Built by Ford with Mazda tweaks, and a fraternal twin to the Ford Escape, the Tribute took model year 2007 off but it's back for 2008 and offers more value than before. Tribute ...more

@1300ccsoffury: Because Mazda might be worried it would be like the time MG released a twin-cam version of its MGA. The new motor chewed its cam chains off (or something similar) and flopped immensely. the Brits usually never bothered to do that sort of thing. And Mazda already spent that money on a folding hardtop (which makes sense given the target market).
