Maybach: Cars
built 820 days ago
With a highly focused lineup that consists of just two incredibly sumptuous touring sedans, Maybach creates luxury cars that are as exclusive as they are expensive. The automaker's vehicles are custom-built to each customer's taste. A long list of options, colors and interior furnishings can be applied to any vehicle, but you won't find a selection of popularly equipped Maybachs waiting on dealer lots. Instead, you must order your vehicle by visiting a Maybach dealer's "Commissioning Studio," housed within a Mercedes-Benz dealership.

Maybach's focus on components led him to achieve firsts with the gearwheel transmission (1889), the float-chamber spray-jet carburetor (1893) and the honeycomb radiator core (1896). But his strength was combining many such individual solutions to create the complete concepts that turned engine-driven carriages into motorcars.

Mercedes is planning to launch its smallest Maybach model in 2009, according to a new report by Germany's Auto Motor und Sport. The V12 vehicle would offer between 500 and 600 horsepower, and would be similar in size to the Mercedes S-Class. Tentatively called the Maybach 51 — due to its 5.1 meter length — the car could even share a platform with the W221 S-Class. A coupe version is expected to follow the sedan variant, the magazine said. The sedan will be priced against the Bentley Continental Flying Spur and the forthcoming "small" Rolls-Royce model.

The Maybach's lines – both inside and out – have been chosen for their timeless elegance. A range of exquisite materials, including – depending on the model variant – up to 78 masterfully designed and hand-crafted fine wood trim elements, are available to adorn the inside of the car. Indeed, the Maybach's interior design was inspired by one aim in particular: to provide the greatest possible comfort for all the car's occupants.

Extraordinary quality-control measures will help ensure the level of care that the Maybach customers expect throughout the logistics process. Maybach automobiles leave the production facility in special watertight containers, in which they remain until reaching the U.S. vehicle preparation centers. Every step of the way, only specially trained staff handle the Maybach, and only five or six people touch the car from the time it leaves the factory until its arrival at the dealership via enclosed trailer.

While Maybach was not very well known after the second world war, it made a return in the early 2000s with the introduction of the Maybach 57. These cars are considered to be the domain of the super wealthy, and the typical Maybach will cost more than the typical American home.
