It was confirmed through The Hollywood Reporter that 20th Century Fox had bought the rights to bring the game to film in early 2003.[10] The Max Payne movie is to be directed by John Moore. Mark Wahlberg has been confirmed by Fox to play the role of Payne in the movie and production is scheduled to begin in 2008.[11] The movie will be produced by Collision Entertainment and Firm Films in Toronto.[12]
For its graphics, and those stunning action sequences that you'll be boring your buddies with for weeks, Max Payne 2 is a definite must-have for action fans. But it's not quite the revolution tht made "Max Payne" a must-have for everyone. [Holiday 2003, p.124]

The original Max Payne used an over-the-shoulder camera perspective so that the main character was always visible in the action sequences, telling a story through voiceovers and cutscenes that looked like panels of a gritty graphic novel. Action and spectacle have always been the highlight of the franchise, from slow-motion gunfights to stunts amid the exploding wreckage of a burning building. With Max Payne 2 the team is really looking to top themselves, with better graphics and more ways to interact with the environment.

The graphics in Max Payne 2 are not revolutionary, other than a little physics application, there's not much that is unseen before. High-level polygon count, smooth transitions, detailed scenery and character textures, all put together well to make a nice backdrop for the game. But where most games stop there, thinking this is all they'll need, MP2 goes one better. It has an engaging story that draws you, the player, into the depths of Max's psyche.

That which made the first Max Payne so popular was a gameplay feature known as Bullet Time. Bullet Time is a slow-motion Matrix-like gunfight technique that acts as Max’s heightened sense of awareness. With it Payne can easily target enemies, taking them out before they even get a chance to pull the trigger… In Max Payne 2, Bullet Time returns with what Remedy has dubbed Bullet Time 2.0. However, Bullet Time 2.0 isn’t something entirely new, at least not enough to justify a new name. After laying waste to a few enemies when first initiating the Bullet Time feature, with the simple press of a button, you’re Bullet Time meter will change color from white to yellow, indicating an even higher sense of awareness in Max. Meaning, Max almost becomes superhuman.
