These Masques were meant to be "throw-away" pieces that would only be performed once, by and for Williams' colleagues. Nonetheless, Williams' playful poetry is far superior to most of his contemporaries' attempts to express the Sublime. His tongue-in-cheek homage to his boss, for example, is a marvel of concise and playful sarcasm: "…what are years or centuries to him/whose reputation makes the future dim?"
Masques were typically a complimentary offering to the prince among his guests and might combine pastoral settings, mythological fable, and the dramatic elements of ethical debate. There would invariably be some political and social application of the allegory. Such pageants often celebrated a birth, marriage, change of ruler or a Royal Entry and invariably ended with a tableau of bliss and concord. Masque imagery tended to be drawn from Classical rather than Christian sources, and the artifice was part of the charm. Masque ... lent itself to Mannerist treatment in the hands of master designers like Giulio Romano or Inigo Jones. The New Historians, in works like the essays of Bevington and Holbrook's The Politics of the Stuart Court Masque (1998),[1] have pointed out the political subtext of masques.
Masques, peels and scrubs work by whisking away dead surface cells from your skin, revealing the plumper, younger ones below. This process ... helps the skin speed up cell production, resulting in younger cells reaching the surface. This contributes to a brighter, smoother complexion overall.
This will be the last — and the biggest — book in the acclaimed Masques series (469 pages), edited by Jerry Williamson. After Williamson fell ill he asked Gary Braunbeck to step in and complete the project for him. A number of authors have provided stories as a tribute to Jerry, including Ray Bradbury, Richard Matheson, Ray Garton, Poppy Z. Brite, Jack Ketchum, Richard Christian Matheson, William Nolan, Tom Monteleone, Gary Braunbeck and Barry Hoffman. Clive Barker is providing the cover art (and signing all editions), along with a fronticepiece for the Lettered edition only.
Masques were stylish entertainments produced by and for the monarch and the court. The more elaborate and lavish the production the better. Masques consisted of dramatic pageants, which incorporated drama, music, dance, ornate costumes, and elaborate scenery.  While the performances often likened rulers to mythical gods and heroes, there was always room for subtle criticism of public policy and laws.
