Mase is known for his sound, which is monotonic, slow and mellow. Rolling Stone writer Fricke wrote that Mase's rapping has "sleepy, unforced authority." Village Voice writer Robert Christgau defined Mase's sound as a "phlegmatic, just-woke-up drawl." Harlem World executive producer Deric "D-dot" Angelettie told Rolling Stone, that Mase "says things in such a manner where it's real street but ... real easy to understand. That's a knack few MCs have." Mase is also recognized for his unthreatening demeanor.

"Do You Remember" features Cardan and has Mase reflecting back to 1996 and noting the changes in his life since then. He cites that he's back to save the city like Sodom and Gomorrah. "I Owe" is a bumpin' track that cites Mase's purpose. He states that he's back in the industry to show sinners about the joy of a changed life. He speaks to his need to minister and continually tithe.

While Biggie's version of gangsta was just what the community ordered, Mase's version of mack daddy makes it want to fwow up. Admittedly, the cheers he got from the very unkiddie Garden crowd--which, ''pop'' or no, was ... overwhelmingly African American--were relatively high-pitched. But the ladies won every make-some-noise contest all night, and what's more telling in re Mase's cuddle factor is that many of these were X-rated.

In the past, critics have compared Fabolous', Loon's and Mase’s rhyme styles, noting similarities in flow and vocal cadence. Fabolous acknowledged in an interview on the Black Entertainment Television program Rap City that he was aware, and even agreed that, the two emcees had similar voices.
