Mary Poppins (1964): Children
built 203 days ago
Mary Poppins CAP Thermometers Mary Poppins was a delightful romp for children and the young at heart through a make-believe world of frolic and fantasy. There were no instances of offensive material throughout the movie. While there were several occurences of "magic," there was nothing evil or sinister about any of the "magic." Mary could have been angelic. While some might consider the "We won't go to sleep!" from Michael to Mary Poppins to be arrogance and/or impudence, the obstinence was NOT at his parents.

Mary Poppins lunchbox. The front and back of this metal lunchbox feature an illustration of Mary Poppins in a blue dress flying over houses with an umbrella. The box contains a metal thermos with a plastic top decorated with an illustration of Mary Poppins riding a carousel with two children.
As soon as the song Spoonful of Sugar is over, Mary Poppins gets the children's coats out of the closet. When you see the full shot, the mattress of the bed in the foreground has disappeared. It is quite evident because you can see Michael's shoes.
The film opens with a shot of Mary Poppins touching up her makeup as she perches on a cloud high above 1910 London. The action then descends to earth where Bert, a cockney jack-of-all-trades, introduces the audience to the Bankses, a well-to-do but troubled family headed by the cold and aloof Mr. Banks and the loving but highly distracted Mrs. Banks. The Banks' latest nanny has just quit out of exasperation at the indiscipline of the Banks children, Jane and Michael, a fact that Mrs. Banks only belatedly becomes aware of, due to her ongoing preoccupation with suffragette rallies.
High above the dawn clouds over London, "practically perfect" Mary Poppins floats out of the sky and into the lives of two playfully mischeivious children. With the help of a carefree chimney sweep named Bert, the spirited nanny makes every chore a game and every day a "jolly holiday." But, after they leap into a imaginative world of a sidewalk chalk drawing, visit a hilarious floating tea party, and join a rooftop song and dance, it may take more than "A Spoonful Of Sugar" to cheer up the children's precise and disapproving father!
